F.A.Q. Volvo VEA gen2 / SPA 2019+ tuning
Please send us your vin number, and we are happy to check it.
You will get a new ECM with our tuning stage.
This ECM is the same as the one fitted in your car, and a direct fit when replacing.
No, we only tune the ICE (internal combustion engine).
No, unfortunately the iSoftloader is not suitable for the 2019+ models.
If the manufacturer detects any changes made to the ECM or software, you can expect your warranty void.
However, you can always put your original ECM back into the car and it will be back to factory spec.
We offer a 2 year warranty on the tuning and ECM.
Everything but the ECM can be updated at the dealer or OTA (Over-The-Air).
Our ECM units have their own special security, and can only be updated by Rica engineering.
Unfortunately we don’t have a solution at this moment.
- V40 2019 ( YV1MV32 / YV1MV36)
- All MHEV models
If you can’t find your model in our database or the in development section.
Please send us an email with your vin number and we will check it .
Volvo VEA
Volvo Engine Architecture
2.0-liter, 4-cylinder only
Aluminum block and head, Direct injection Turbocharged or turbo + supercharged, Designed for efficiency, performance, and emissions compliance
All modern Volvo petrol engines are based on this 2.0L platform.
Changes in 2019+ (VEA Gen2)
SPA (Scalable Product Architecture). SPA is Volvo’s vehicle platform used for larger models, such as:
- XC90
- XC60
- S90
- V90
- S60 / V60 (newer generations)
SPA vehicles integrate advanced electronics, safety systems, and centralized ECUs, which strongly affects diagnostics and tuning.
From model year 2019, Volvo introduced VEA Gen2 engines on SPA platforms, featuring:
- Updated ECU hardware & encryption
- New torque and emissions management strategies
- Improved combustion efficiency
- WLTP / Euro 6d compliance
- Increased cybersecurity protection (locked ECUs)
These changes made traditional tuning methods impossible—until new solutions (like Rica’s) were developed.
